Through the setting of this book you can learn the different aspects that are associated with the Australian lifestyle and culture. The book is set in an old country town, seven young teenagers set upon facing the harsh Australian countryside by going camping for a few days. They decide to go and camp up in the rocky mountain like area called hell. Hell because it was known for being empty and unforgiving.
Not only do you learn from the setting of the book, but the way Ellie writes, between her interactions with other characters and description of actions taken. Bits of Australian ‘lingo’ as it is known is thrown in here and there to make a bold statement of whom and where they are. It also set a distinct feel and mood to the book while you are reading it.
